Health for children in residential care continues to be an area of concern for practitioners and policymakers alike. The Scottish Journal of Residential Child Care will be publishing a special edition in Autumn 2009 which will address this topic. The editors are seeking a variety of papers which will highlight good practice or which will help to throw some light on a particular aspect of the health experiences of children in care. Perspectives from practitioners and researchers will be welcome. Any work which allows us to draw lessons from the experience of other nations will be particularly interesting.
The guest editor for this edition of the journal is Steven McCluskey. Steven is based at Create Consultancy Ltd. as a specialist consultant in health improvement and children and young people. He has researched and published on the health and wellbeing of looked-after children and care leavers whilst with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the big step (care leavers) Social Inclusion Partnership and received a distinction for his masters research on the health of looked-after children in Scotland. He has led and supported various health policy, planning and service developments on behalf of looked after children and care leavers. Steven is a founding member of the Scottish Healthy Care Network and held the post of National Development Officer. Steven was a member of the Being Emotionally Mentally and Physically Healthy Working Group for the Scottish Executive report Looked-After Children & Young People: We Can & Must Do Better (2007) and has also chaired various health planning and development groups for looked-after children.
Papers for the special edition should be no more than 3000 words and should be submitted by email. The language of the journal is English. Papers should be received by April 2009 and should be sent to irene.c.stevens@strath.ac.uk.
