Therapeutic Activities with Children and Young People

Course Aim: 
To introduce participants to a range of therapeutic activities helpful in working with children and young people, including play, art, music and drama
Course Objectives: 
Have developed an understanding of the therapeutic use of the life space of children and young people
Have developed an understanding of the therapeutic use of play, art, music and/or drama
Have developed knowledge of materials and resources useful in such work. Have developed skills in some practical techniques for using with children and young people in a residential setting
SVQ Underpinning Knowledge: 
This course may provide evidence for unit HSC 34
Higher National Certificate: 
This course provides an introduction to concepts explored in the units Understanding and Supporting Behaviour, Psychology for Social Care Practice, Social Care Theory for Practice.
Target Group: 
This course will be suitable for all grades of practitioners who work directly with children and young people, including those who work with disabled children. No previous experience of play, art, music or drama is necessary
Course Length: 
The main components of this course, play, art, music and drama, will be delivered over a two-three day period.
