Group Living: Therapeutic Use of the Residential Environment

Course Aim: 
To consider the group living environment and the opportunities it creates for effective intervention with young people
Course Objectives: 
Understand how to communicate more effectively with children and young people
Be able to consider how the use of time, space and activity might contribute to a positive group care environment
Use everyday events and interventions as opportunity for positive involvement with young people
Show some awareness of the psychodynamic features of working within the lifespace
SVQ Underpinning Knowledge: 
This course may provide evidence for unit HSC 34
Higher National Certificate: 
This course provides an introduction to concepts explored in the units Social Care Theory for Practice and Understanding and Supporting Behaviour.
Target Group: 
This course will be relevant for all staff from basic grade practitioners to Unit Managers. It will also be relevant to staff undertaking various modules in Therapeutic Work with Children and Young People
