Drugs, Substance and Alcohol Misuse

Course Aim: 
To help staff understand the nature of substance misuse and use this to work more effectively with young people who are misusing substances
Course Objectives: 
Define what substance misuse means for the young person, the worker and the workplace
Understand the legal implications for practice
Outline the main signs and symptoms of substance misuse
Develop skills in working with young people who abuse substances
SVQ Underpinning Knowledge: 
The course may provide evidence for unit HSC 32 and 34
Higher National Certificate: 
This course provides an introduction to concepts explored in the unit Psychology for Social Care Practice.
Target Group: 
This course will be useful for all residential child care staff, from basic grade practitioners to Unit Managers
Course Length: 
2 days. This course can also be delivered over 4 half days or 4 evening sessions.
