Child Care Law for Residential Workers

Course Aim: 
To familiarise course participants with the broad legislative framework affecting children in residential care
Course Objectives: 
Have an understanding of the principle statutes affecting social work with children and their families and of the role of the Children's Hearings and Courts in securing children's welfare
Develop an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of both children who are looked after and their parents
Develop understanding of the statutes which promote permanence for children who cannot return home
Acquire knowledge of the legal rights and entitlements of young people who require to be accommodated until adulthood
SVQ Underpinning Knowledge: 
This course may provide evidence for all mandatory units of the SVQ
Higher National Certificate: 
This course provides an introduction to concepts explored in the unit Social Policy.
