Profile of Children and Young People Entering Residential Child Care

This project will involve a systematic survey,
undertaken in a sample of residential units, to determine the characteristics
of the young people currently being admitted to residential care. Information
gathered will include: the reasons for admission to care; legal status; age;
gender, sibling groups. The study will also collect information on the appropriateness
of the placement in order to explore the current role of residential care
vis-a-vis other placement services. The study will draw on previous research
and statistical information to identify trends and changes.
