Assertiveness for Ourselves and Young People

Course Aim: 
To examine assertiveness in relation to anti-oppressive practice. The focus will be on consolidating personal and professional skills, which will enable workers to empower young people, and effectively challenge bad practice.
Course Objectives: 
Understand the reasons for developing assertiveness within a residential childcare setting
Understand the links between sources of power, assertiveness and empowerment
Identify the differences between aggressive, manipulative, passive and assertive behaviours
Develop techniques for using assertiveness
SVQ Underpinning Knowledge: 
The course may provide evidence of underpinning knowledge for unit HSC 31.
Target Group: 
The course will be useful for all residential childcare practitioners from new staff through to Unit Managers.
