On Friday 5 March the Big Lottery Fund announced a new £50 million National Lottery investment in Scotland aimed at transforming the life chances of young people leaving care and fundamentally improving the lives of older people with dementia and their carers. The aim of this is to have a substantial and lasting impact, and achieve long-term transformational change for clearly discernable and discrete groups of young and older people who experience greatest need. They will develop the mechanism for delivering this funding during the forthcoming year and will be engaging with key stakeholders during the development. They want the funding to be delivered using a person-centred, holistic approach that provides appropriate and tailored support directly to those most in need. They want to engage with relevant services to identify and implement improvements or changes that will reduce this need over time. This announcement is separate to their plans for Investing in Communities 2, their main funding programme, which will be announced in summer 2010.
