Course Aim:
To help staff understand how difficulties in communication often underlie challenging behaviour and learning styles, and to provide a range of practical strategies to help avoid or manage problems when they do arise.
Course Objectives:
Understand why communication is important for personal security and development.
Be able to identify commonly occurring communication deficits in young people in care.
Recognise how communication deficits often lead to social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Identify appropriate strategies to support young people with their communication needs.
Use practical strategies to help young people to manage their own behaviour.
