The Scottish Institute of Residential Childcare (SIRCC) today welcomed the Scottish Government and COSLA's commitment to implementing all the recommendations of "Securing our Future" - the independent report into Scotland's secure care estate.
The report was commissioned by the Scottish Government and COSLA as part of the broader National Residential Child Care Initiative led by SIRCC, which is based at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
All of the recommendations of the working group - the Securing our Future Initiative (SOFI) - have been accepted in full and are to be implemented as an integrated package.
Romy Langeland, Chair of SIRCC, the National Child Care Initiative and the SOFI working group, said: "We warmly welcome the Minister's support for the work that has been done over recent months.
"The support for the physical, mental and emotional health needs of young people is especially welcome. Meeting these needs more effectively is of great importance in helping young people to address their difficulties.
"Our recommendations will be taken forward in the work of the National Residential Child Care Initiative over the coming months.
"We recognize that we will not be able to achieve the changes that are required without the full collaboration of those involved - the Scottish Government, local authorities, secure care providers and others in the voluntary sector. Only together can we work towards directly addressing the sources of young people's distress and behaviour."
