What is SIRCC?
SIRCC is a partnership of the University of Strathclyde, The Robert Gordon University, Who Cares? Scotland and Langside College, established in April 2000, to ensure that residential child care workers throughout Scotland have access to the skills and knowledge they require to meet the needs of the children and young people in their care. SIRCC is managed by a Management Committee on which each partner organisation has one representative who is not a SIRCC staff member along with an independent chairperson.
What does SIRCC do?
SIRCC provides learning and development opportunities, supports organisational development and workforce planning within the Residential Child Care sector. The business of SIRCC is organised into 3 business divisions; Education and Training Delivery, Service Development and Research and Information Services.
Education and Training Delivery
This division encompasses all activities that currently support and deliver pre-qualifying, qualifying and post-registration training.
Service Development
The division is responsible for the delivery of professional consultation activities, workforce development services and policy development work.
Research and Information Services
The division undertakes range of research activities and the dissemination of sound evidence through its academic and practitioner research services, specialist resource library and electronic media, and by producing publications.
How is SIRCC funded?
SIRCC is funded primarily by the Scottish Government, through a main grant and a small number of smaller grants, our current grant continues to November 2009, with the funding of the social work degree continuing to 2011. SIRCC's overall budget costs for 2007-2008 are £2,863,209.
How many people work at SIRCC?
SIRCC has a total of 62 members of staff across Scotland. There are 23 staff based at the National Office of SIRCC which is in the Glasgow School of Social Work at the University of Strathclyde. The remaining staff are sited in partner bases at the Glasgow School of Social Work, the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Langside College, and Who Cares? Scotland in Glasgow. SIRCC is managed by a Director who is accountable to the Management Committee. The Director has liaison and co-ordination responsibility for SIRCC as a whole, and is assisted in this task by the Senior Management Team comprised of three Assistant Directors.
