A conference presented and chaired entirely by care leavers on
Access to Records and Historic Abuse
Aims
l To provide an opportunity to reflect on current practices
l To provide an opportunity to hear about 1st hand experience
l To disseminate research that has been undertaken, particularly by care leavers (all the speakers and chairs are care leavers)
l To consider messages for new practices in relation to young people currently in and leaving care
l To look at the specific issues surrounding the keeping of records
l To examine ongoing concerns and developments surrounding historic abuse
Target Audience
Residential child care workers, social workers, care leavers, foster care workers, academics and others with interests in the theme.
Background
The idea of the Care Leavers’ Association (CLA) running an event in Scotland with SIRCC followed a very successful conference in England with BAAF. It was felt that it could be really helpful to see how a number of care leavers have progressed into successful careers as adults and to address two of the key issues facing care leavers in the UK, from a Scottish perspective.
These are ‘Access to Records’ and ‘Historic Abuse’.
