PDA in Care Services Management

The Professional Development Award (PDA) in Care Services Management is designed to meet the SSSC registration requirements for managers in Residential Child Care. This course has been developed by SQA and will supersede the PDA Advanced Certificate in Supervising and Managing Personal Social Services. Managers will require this qualification plus a care qualification e.g. SVQ Level 4, degree in social work or equivalent.

Course Content

The course will cover the following modules:

• Supervision in a care setting
• Managing Resources in Care Services
• Supporting and Managing the Protection of Individuals
• Managing Policy and Procedure in Care Services
• Effective leadership and Management

Entry Requirements

• HNC Social Care or equivalent or
• Successful completion of a core skills appraisal

Assessment

Continuous assessment. There will be some assessments which will be undertaken in the class, assignments to be completed within agreed timescales and portfolio building.

• 12 months

• Three Days attendance per module is required
• Home study will also be required

Possible Progression Routes

• BA (Hons) Social Work
• Registration with Scottish Social Services Councils
• Employment as a Manager in the care sector
