Big opportunities for organisations offering services to young people leaving care!

On Friday 5 March the Big Lottery Fund announced a new £50 million National Lottery investment in Scotland aimed at transforming the life chances of young people leaving care and fundamentally improving the lives of older people with dementia and their carers. The aim of this is to have a substantial and lasting impact, and achieve long-term transformational change for clearly discernable and discrete groups of young and older people who experience greatest need.

New Networking Website about Residential Child Care

An exciting new networking website promoting Residential Child Care (RCC) has recently been set up by Gareth Wall a registered child care manager and SIRCC has been invited to join. SIRCC would like to encourage engagement from the sector in Scotland. The website could become a very valuable resource.

In his own words:

"It is a website solely dedicated to RCC that allows people to network with like minded and passionate professional people who find themselves on the same wavelength and enjoy a mutual learning experience."

National Approach to Anti-Bullying

SIRCC continues to play an active part as a representative member of the government's 'Scottish Anti-bullying Steering' (SABS) group. The Scottish Government, through SABS, has published a consultation document 'that sets out a draft national approach to anti-bullying in Scotland.' The paper outlines broadly the contributions to this approach by sectors and stakeholders nationally and highlights the role of SABS.

It is a consultation paper and responses are required by the end of February 2010. You can respond online.

Higher Aspirations - NRCCI Launch

The primary purpose of the NRCCI was to undertake a strategic review of residential child care services and make sector driven recommendations to the Scottish Government, local government and providers of residential child care.

Adam Ingram asked SIRCC to lead the NRCCI and thereby honour the Government’s commitment to working with partners to make residential care the first and best placement of choice for those children whose needs it serves.
